Dumbbell soorten: welke past het best bij mij?

Types of dumbbells: which one is right for me?

One of our recent blogs was about dumbbell exercises for a full-body workout. This allows you to train at home and you don't have to pay for a gym membership. Would you like to do this workout, but don't have dumbbells? Then read on, because we discuss the different types and tell you exactly which type suits your fitness goal!

1. Fixed dumbbells

Fixed dumbbells cannot be adjusted. They have a fixed weight and are available in various sizes; from 1 kg up to 60 kg. One of the advantages is that you can start your workout directly with these dumbbells. On the other hand, you do need some space, as you will need to purchase different sets if you do different exercises. Buying multiple dumbbell sets also costs a lot of money.

  • You can start training immediately
  • Possible to train heavy because there are dumbbells up to 60 kg
  • When you purchase multiple sets, this takes up a lot of space
  • Purchasing multiple sets is expensive

2. Adjustable dumbbell

These dumbbells are very easy to use because they contain a handy mechanism. If you set the weight and pick up the dumbbells, only the chosen weight is attached to the barbells. This means one set is enough. This is much cheaper than purchasing a large set of fixed dumbbells and saves a lot of space.

  • You quickly change weight
  • You only need one set, which saves space
  • Relatively cheaper than a few sets of fixed dumbbells
  • Larger than a fixed dumbbell
  • Risk of wear and tear is greater

3. Hexa dumbbells

Because they are hexagonal, these dumbbells are also called hexagon dumbbells. They are easy to stack and therefore easy to store. You can also use them as push-up handles, for example, allowing you to do more exercises. Thanks to the rubber coating, they also do not damage the floor if you put them down too hard.

  • They don't roll away
  • Because they don't roll, you can also use them as push-up supports
  • You can start training immediately
  • No damage to your floor due to the coating
  • Many sets take up a lot of space
  • Purchasing multiple sets is very expensive

4. Dumbbell set (dumbbell bar with plates)

Thanks to the screw bolts, you can screw multiple weight plates onto these dumbbells, which saves you a lot of money and space. The weights are available from 1 to 20 kg. The disadvantage is that you spend a lot of time changing the weight during training. This can be disruptive because your training is often interrupted.

  • You save a lot of space
  • Cheaper than a set of fixed dumbbells because you only need one set
  • You can adjust the weight as desired
  • It takes a lot of time to change weights

5. Vinyl dumbbells

Vinyl dumbbells are dumbbells that you do not use for strength training, but more for exercises where you move a lot, such as aerobics or Zumba. These dumbbells are usually not heavier than 10 kg. They have a vinyl coating so your floor remains undamaged if they fall on the ground. This coating also ensures that the dumbbell does not get dirty.

  • The vinyl coating protects your floor and does not attract dirt
  • The dumbbells are compact
  • Relatively cheap
  • Suitable for group classes or exercises where you move a lot
  • Not suitable for strength training

We have discussed 5 types of dumbbells here, but on our site, you can find a dumbbell for every fitness goal. We hope we have helped you get started!
