Fitwinkel Charity & Friends walks Urban Night Trail for Duchenne

On February 12, 2026, Fitwinkel Charity & Friends stood at the starting line of the Urban Night Trail in Hengelo. What for many was a sporting evening, for us gained extra significance. We chose to link our participation to a good cause: raising money for the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. With no less than 85 employees at the start, we colored the evening in Fitwinkel style. Running together, enduring together, laughing together. And above all: making an impact together. While other participants ran for the athletic performance and the experience of the event, we ran with a shared mission.

What is the Urban Night Trail in Hengelo?

The Urban Night Trail is an atmospheric running event that takes place in the evening. The route leads participants through the city, along illuminated streets and special locations. The combination of sport, light, and music creates a unique experience that is different from a traditional running race. Participants could choose between a distance of 5 or 10 kilometers. Whether you opted for an accessible run or an extra sporting challenge, everyone experienced the same energetic evening in a special setting.

Why do we run for Duchenne?

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a severe and progressive muscle disease that primarily affects boys. Children with Duchenne often fall and cannot run well. Around the age of ten, major problems with walking usually arise, and they become dependent on a wheelchair. The use of their arms also becomes increasingly difficult.

When the respiratory muscles weaken, ventilation is needed, often around the age of twenty. Eventually, the heart muscle is also affected. Duchenne is still fatal at present, which is precisely why we wanted to use our participation to do more than just run.

From €5,000 to €11,000

Our original goal was to raise a minimum of €5,000 for the Duchenne Parent Project. Thanks to the enormous enthusiasm of colleagues, customers, partners, and friends, we quickly reached that goal. We increased the target amount to €7,500.

But it didn't stop there.

Ultimately, together we raised a total of €11,000. A result that far exceeded our expectations and shows how much can be achieved when you work towards a common goal. All donations went directly to the Duchenne Parent Project and contribute to research and support for families living with this disease daily.

Sport with meaning

As Fitwinkel, we believe in the power of movement. Sport connects people, provides energy, and brings goals closer. This evening in Hengelo showed that in a special way. The Urban Night Trail was a sporting evening out for many participants. For us, it also became a moment of engagement. 85 colleagues standing at the start together and an organization demonstrating that sport can also have a societal impact.

Thank you for your support

To everyone who donated, shared, or encouraged us: thank you. Thanks to your support, we were able to raise a wonderful amount and together we have taken a step towards a future without Duchenne.

With sporting regards,
The Fitwinkel Charity & Friends team
