On November 17, Fitwinkel's sporty colleagues were ready to go, on this fresh Sunday morning they ran the NN Zevenheuvelenloop (Seven Hills Run) in Nijmegen with only one goal in mind: to raise money for the fight against Huntington's disease. And they succeeded! Together with its community and Fitwinkel Charity, Fitwinkel raised a wonderful amount of €5,000. This collected amount was festively handed over to the Huntington Campaign Team after the run, which is dedicated to fighting this hereditary and progressive disease.
"This success is only possible thanks to the unconditional support of our community, sponsors, and partners.
Every donation, big or small, contributed to this amazing milestone."
- a Fitwinkel spokesperson
The fight against Huntington's disease
Huntington's disease is a hereditary condition that affects certain parts of the brain. The cause of this incurable disease is an abnormality in a specific gene. Symptoms of the disease gradually worsen, making daily activities increasingly difficult to perform.
Unfortunately, there is no cure or treatment to slow down this disease yet. However, many organizations like the Huntington Campaign Team raise money for research into medicines and much more!
The Seven Hills Run
The fundraising campaign was complemented by a sponsored run: the Zevenheuvelenloop (Seven Hills Run) in Nijmegen. This 15-kilometer race, covering 7 hills, was certainly a challenge. That's why we enlisted the help of Mats Knol from FITT Functional Training. He prepared the enthusiastic Fitwinkel team for this run with weekly Hyrox and other fitness training sessions.
In addition to the intensive preparation in the weeks leading up to the race, our runners were supported during the run by nutrition sponsor Nutrisense, who kept their energy levels up with energy bars and gels.
Fitwinkel Charity, together we make a difference
Fitwinkel Charity believes in the power of community and the impact we can make, especially when we do it together. We applaud the performance of our runners, are proud to have presented an organization like the Huntington Campaign Team with an amount of €5,000, and proud of our Fitwinkel community that made this donation possible.
