You've trained hard and watched your diet for the past year, so you look good in your swimming trunks, bikini, or swimsuit on holiday. As you pack your bags, you start to doubt: should I bring sports clothes? You expect to gain weight and lose muscle mass. You can't bring your workout gear because your suitcase will be too heavy. Running every day doesn't appeal to you either, and eating less is not an option because you just want to enjoy your well-deserved holiday.
Fortunately, all that stress was for nothing, because working out on holiday is not necessary! Don't believe us? Read below to find out why.
Muscle Mass
What you've worked so long for won't be lost in one or two weeks. In fact, due to the rest your body gets, you might even come back stronger. Only if you've been sick does your strength decrease, but if you're healthy, you can easily go three weeks without strength training.
Fitness
Fitness decreases faster than muscle mass. But if you swim a few laps in the pool every day or take a walk on the beach, there's nothing to worry about. Even if you don't exercise for a week, your fitness will remain good. Has your fitness decreased anyway? Don't worry, you'll quickly build it back up when you return.
Food
Food is part of a holiday. Enjoy a drink on the terrace or the foreign cuisine, but be careful not to gain too much weight. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, drink enough water, and eat regularly. Alternate unhealthy meals and try not to indulge every day.
Enjoy!
As a final tip: enjoy your holiday. That one week will be over before you know it! That doesn't mean you should eat everything, but you can certainly choose a delicious sandwich for breakfast once in a while. This way, you won't feel guilty and you'll enjoy yourself to the fullest.
