Balance Training Exercises: What Do I Need? | Blog | Fitwinkel

In our previous blog, we discussed why balance training is so important. That's why in this blog, we'll talk about the equipment you need during balance training and what exercises you can do during your balance training. After reading this blog, you can start training immediately!

You need these materials for a good balance training:

#1 Aquabag

An aquabag is a cylindrical bag filled with water. The water moves during exercises, making one side of the bag heavier than the other. This forces your body to constantly correct itself and activates different muscle groups. With the aquabag, you can do various exercises, such as:

  • Exercise 1: Squat with aquabag. You can optionally place the aquabag on your neck.
  • Exercise 2: Lunge with aquabag, here too you can place the aquabag on your neck.
  • Exercise 3: Single leg extended squat. Start without an aquabag and add it when it gets easier.

#2 Bosu ball

A Bosu ball is essentially half a stability ball with a sturdy platform on one side. It trains not only your balance but also your flexibility. Many martial artists use the Bosu ball to work on their stability during movements where they stand on one leg.

  • Exercise 1: Bosu ball mountain climbers.
  • Exercise 2: Bosu ball squats. You can also turn the Bosu over to make it extra challenging.
  • Exercise 3: Bosu ball push-up. For more ease, you can perform the push-up on your knees.

#3 Balance board

A balance board is always off balance. When you stand on it, you are immediately challenged to maintain your equilibrium. You can make the training as difficult as you want, for example, by throwing a ball together while both standing on a balance board, standing on one leg, or balancing with your eyes closed. The possibilities are endless. An example is the "Two leg tilts - round the clock" exercise.

#4 Exercise ball

When you use an exercise ball, your body has to work hard to stay balanced. Your core is constantly activated, which is also good for your abdominal muscles. The exercise ball is suitable for fitness exercises but can also be used as an office chair at work. This strengthens your balance, stability, and posture and can help prevent injuries.

  • Exercise 1: Exercise ball rollout
  • Exercise 2: Exercise ball push-up
  • Exercise 3: Single Leg Swiss Ball Hips Raises
